Last year I set up a new HP laptop for my sister. IT cost well over a grand to purchase. ..runs Vista. I've never had a laptop and have zero experience with them.
The other day I had the lappy lock up on a Direct TV web site that was bloated with flash. I couldn't turn the dang thing off. Even the Task Manager was frozen. Needless to say, after pulling all the plugs and cords, only removing the battery allowed me to do a hard off.
So this is my question. I know nothing about laptop batteries. My sister only uses the laptop sitting at her desk, never takes it in another room or on trips.
Is the battery pack supposed to be stored in the PC even though it is never used? May sound like a stupid question since it is so basic. Help appreciated.
TIA, Kris _________________

I'm not sure , I was told it should be taken out if the laptop is hardwired.
However, several times kicked/tripped the powerline out by accident and if I hadn't already had the battery pack in I woulda lost something, I'm sure.
Someone with more knowledge about this , I'm sure will comment soon.

Should be stored in unit. Battery can not be over charged(according to operating instruction) and have had no difficulty with battery since purchasing laptop three years ago. Also use mine connected to power source all the time. But, any loss of power or surge could, would cause unit to shut down with out battery. Sincerely suggest leaving it installed.
